LEAVE A LEGACY

Adult and child reading in library

The Albuquerque Public Library Foundation (APLF) is the nonprofit designated to receive bequests and other planned gifts to benefit the Public Library, Albuquerque & Bernalillo County. Naming APLF as a beneficiary will enable you to support your public library system into the future, and, in some instances, receive tax benefits.*

The simplest way to make a planned gift is to name APLF in your will or trust. Here is an example of wording that might be used to designate a fixed sum or percentage of your assets to The Albuquerque Public Library Foundation.

“I give to The Albuquerque Public Library Foundation. Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit corporation, PO Box 25792, Albuquerque, NM 87125 (Federal Tax I.D. # 45-2688338), the amount of $ ______ or _____ % of the residue of my estate for purposes deemed appropriate by the APLF Board of Directors."

Gifts to the Albuquerque Public Library Foundation (APLF) do not fund basic library operations. Instead, we work closely with the Library Director to determine where private funding will expand and enhance the library’s work, helping the library offer services and programs and undertake building enhancements that might not be possible otherwise.

*Please seek advice from your financial advisor, lawyer or tax professional. For more detailed information, please refer to the APLF Gift Acceptance Policy.

PLANNED GIVING

Have you considered a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to the APLF?

If you are age 73 or older* and have a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you have reached that milestone where you must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). The distribution may increase your taxable income and require you to pay taxes on this previously untaxed asset.

If you do not need all or part of the distribution, or if it will cause unwanted tax repercussions, you may be interested in a Qualified Charitable Distribution. The QCD allows you to gift some or all of your RMD to charity, which omits the distribution from your income and allows you to avoid paying the tax on the gift amount. Questions? Talk with your financial advisor.

*If you turned 70 1/2 before 2020, you may be subject to RMDs. For 2020 and after, you may be subject to RMDs beginning at age 73.
